Pluto trine Sun transit: meaning, duration and advice

During this transit, Pluto moves through a sign of the same element as your natal Sun, and the two energies pull in the same direction. The planet of transformation meets your identity, your vitality and your direction in life in a climate of alliance: what needs to change in you changes from the inside, at your own pace, without anything being torn away. What gets activated is a kind of maturity of the will. You know what you want with a new clarity, you want it less loudly on the surface and far more deeply, and other people feel it: they follow you, they confide in you, they recognize an authority in you that you never asked for.

In daily life, you feel you have a larger and steadier reserve of energy than before. Situations that used to intimidate you are handled calmly, difficult people become easy to read, and influential people sometimes open their door to you without your having asked for anything. Your view of your own story changes too: old episodes take on meaning, knots come undone almost on their own. The questions that keep coming back are those of a calmer ambition: what do I want to build with this strength? What is it worth devoting it to? How can I make this period the foundation of something a little bigger than I am?

Pluto trine Sun asks for nothing loud, and that is its trap: it asks you to dare depth when the surface is comfortable. The risk is letting these years slip by in pleasant ease, without commitment, or taking your new magnetism for granted and using it to charm rather than to build. The gift, for those who put it to use, is lasting: a confidence that no longer depends on circumstances, an ability to transform whatever you touch, a place taken naturally where you once had to fight for it. Looking back, many people date from this trine the moment they stopped wondering whether they measured up.

The trine stays active for two to three years within a one-degree orb, with the variations particular to Pluto: shorter in the signs where it speeds along, longer in those where it lingers, since it takes anywhere from twelve to thirty years to cross a single sign. Its annual retrograde of about five months brings it back over the exact angle, hence three passes as a rule, five sometimes, and here these comings and goings feel like successive deepenings rather than moments of self-questioning. A full cycle lasts two hundred forty-eight years: this trine rarely happens more than once in a lifetime, and many people never experience it, depending on where Pluto stood in their birth chart.

A trine links two signs of the same element. A Sun in a fire sign (Aries, Leo or Sagittarius) receives Pluto’s trine from one of the other two fire signs, and the same logic holds for earth, air and water.
