Sun opposite South Node: meaning in the birth chart

A Sun opposite the South Node is also a Sun conjunct the North Node, and here your identity is still yours to claim. On the South Node side, the comfort zone is well furnished: dependable skills, old loyalties, perhaps inherited from other lives, a way of existing that has long passed for a personality. The Sun asks for something else: a will of your own, a desire with your name on it, the joy of being yourself out in the open. The old resists out of habit; the Sun calls, with the warmth of a life that wants to light up. This tension is no sterile conflict; it simply shows the direction of travel.

The South Node’s resistance takes very ordinary forms. You know how to organize everyone else’s party, make the case for a colleague’s project, keep a household running, yet saying “I want” feels almost out of place. The personal project waits in a notebook, because there’s always something more urgent or more reasonable. On the other side, the Sun sends its own messages: an urge to create that won’t let up, a secret admiration for people who dare to jump in, an unexpected flash of anger when someone decides for you. In love, you catch yourself choosing the movie, the restaurant or the destination, and you enjoy that little bit of power.

Turn your old talents toward your own project: that’s the whole secret of this aspect. If you’re good at organizing other people’s parties, organize your own; if you make the case for a colleague’s project so well, make the case for yours with the same energy. Your skills from yesterday then become the stage crew of a show in which you finally play the title role. Set aside regular room, however modest, for your own wishes: a class, a piece of writing, an initiative, a decision made for yourself. Little by little, the question changes: you stop asking whether you have the right, and start asking where to begin, and that is exactly how you move toward your North Node.
