Calculate your birth chart for free, step by step
To calculate your birth chart, three details are enough: your date, time and place of birth, entered in the birth chart form. The calculation is free, needs no sign-up and appears in a few seconds. Here is how to fill in each field, what to do if the time or the city is missing, and what you will find on the result page.
What you need to calculate your birth chart
A birth chart is a map of the sky at the exact minute and place of your birth. Each field of the form therefore has a precise role, and none of them is there for show.
The date places the Sun, the Moon and the planets in the signs. The time sets the Ascendant, the Midheaven and the twelve houses, which turn through the whole zodiac in twenty-four hours. The place gives the latitude, longitude and time zone of the calculation, daylight saving included.
- The date: day, month and year, from 1900 to today.
- The time: to the minute if possible, as written on your birth certificate.
- The place: your city of birth, or coordinates if it is not listed.
- The first name: optional, it simply gives the chart a name.
The most reliable time is the one on your full birth certificate: the page on finding your birth time explains where to request it.
How to fill in the form, field by field
The form fits on a phone screen and takes less than a minute. Here are the fields in order, as they appear on the Calculate your birth chart page.
- First name (optional): type it if you want the page to be titled “Birth chart of Camille”. It also helps you tell your charts apart when you calculate several.
- Date of birth: choose the “Day”, the “Month” and the “Year”. The three lists start empty on purpose, so you never calculate a chart for a date you did not choose.
- Time of birth: set the “Hour” and the “Minutes”. They sit on noon by default, so remember to change them.
- City of birth: type the first letters, then tap the right city in the list. A line reading “✓ … · time zone Europe/London” confirms the place and its time zone.
- The button: tap “Calculate my free birth chart”. Your chart’s page opens straight away.
Forgot a field, or picked an impossible date such as 31 April? The form says so under the field concerned (“This date does not exist: check the day and month.”) and puts the cursor there.
Calculating your birth chart without a birth time
If you do not know the time, tick “I don’t know it”, next to “Time of birth”. The chart is then calculated for noon: the planets in the signs and most aspects remain correct, but the Ascendant, the Midheaven and the houses are not shown, since they depend on the time. In place of the Ascendant, the page reads “Birth time required”.
Only one body calls for extra care: the Moon, which changes sign roughly every two and a half days. If it sits at 0° or 29° of a sign on your page, its sign may differ at your real time of birth. As soon as you find your time, calculate again: the page gains the Ascendant and the houses.
Ways to recover a lost birth time (full birth certificate, family records, health booklet) are gathered on the birth time page.
Your city is not listed: coordinates and the nearest town
The place search relies on a database of 99,000 places built into the site: every commune in France, Belgian and Swiss towns, and cities worldwide. It tolerates typos and suggests “Did you mean…” when nothing matches exactly. If the database finds nothing, the search widens by itself to places worldwide, under the line “Places found with © OpenStreetMap”.
You do not need the exact village: within 30 km, the Ascendant and the houses move by less than a degree, and the planets do not move at all. The nearest large town therefore gives the same chart. For a place you really cannot find, tap “My city isn’t listed / enter coordinates”, then:
- Enter the latitude in decimal degrees (48.85 or 48,85 for Paris), negative south of the equator.
- Enter the longitude (2.35 for Paris), negative west of Greenwich.
- Leave the time zone on “Time zone (auto)”: it is worked out from the coordinates, with the daylight saving rules in force at the time.
How the site turns a city and a local time into positions accurate to the degree: calculation accuracy.
Calculating a loved one’s birth chart
The form is the same for you, a child, a partner or a friend, and you can calculate as many charts as you like. If the form opens pre-filled with your last chart (“Pre-filled with Camille’s chart, calculated on this device.”), tap “New chart” to clear the fields, then enter the other person’s birth details.
Your device keeps up to four charts, listed under “My charts”. The first chart calculated on the device stays there as yours: when the list is full, it is always another one that makes room. For a child under twelve, the reading is addressed to the parents and talks about the child.
Two charts calculated? Compare them with the compatibility calculator: both charts, planet by planet.
What you get once your birth chart is calculated
The result page goes from meaning to technique. At the top come the title “Birth chart of…”, your birth line and the Sun, Moon and Ascendant trio, each with its degree and a link to its full interpretation. A menu then leads to the main parts of the page.
- Reading: an express reading of your chart, composed in a few seconds from your exact chart. The beginning can be read without an account, the rest with a free account.
- Questions: your chart answers you. Ask it five questions a week without an account, ten with a free account.
- Wheel: the interactive wheel of your birth. Tap a planet, a sign, a house or an aspect line to read what it means.
- Placements and dominants: each planet in its sign and house with its degree, the retrogrades, the dominant element and modality, the Moon phase.
- Your chart in detail: “The interpretation of each placement” (Sun-Ascendant, planets in signs and houses, aspects), “Your current transits”, “All the aspects and the houses” and “The text summary”, ready to copy.
Finding your birth chart again and going further
Without an account, nothing is stored on our servers: your chart lives entirely in the address of its page. Bookmark it or share it, and it always recalculates the same chart. To find it on all your devices, with its reading, tap “Keep this chart and its reading”: it joins your space (keeping your chart).
Under the wheel, two links take the calculation further: “My free solar return (the chart of my year)” and compatibility with this chart. To understand what you see, how to read your birth chart walks through the chart in seven steps, and what is a birth chart gives the definition. The paid plans at the bottom of the page remain a choice: everything above them is free.
Your date, time and place of birth are all it takes: your sky map appears in a few seconds, every placement explained.
