The square between Mercury and Neptune pits rational thought against the ocean of the imagination. You may struggle to concentrate, to be precise, to tell an intuition from an illusion; you idealize, you scatter yourself, and you are sometimes the victim of misunderstandings or sweet talk. But this friction is the soil of exceptional creativity and sensitivity. Poets, musicians, screenwriters and therapists often carry this aspect, because it forces you to build a solid bridge between two worlds that most people keep apart.

At work, people with Mercury square Neptune can suffer from a sense of fog: instructions misunderstood, things forgotten, trouble defending their ideas against more Cartesian minds. You are also the one who brings the imagination, intuition and human touch a team needs. In love, misunderstandings are the trap: you guess a lot, but not always right, and you can project onto the other person what you dream they are. Learning to ask questions instead of assuming transforms the relationship. In the family, you are the sensitive one, the one who feels everything.

Your growth area is hard-won clarity. Write your thoughts down to watch them take shape, verify a piece of information before passing it on, ask for confirmation when you think you’ve understood. A regular artistic practice is the best channel for your imagination: it pours its richness there without flooding your daily life. A well-handled Mercury-Neptune square produces minds that are both inspired and clear-sighted, able to name the unspeakable with precision, which is one of the finest talents there is.
